William was a Wine and Spirit Merchant of Calendar Street and Richmond Antrim Road, Belfast, later of Ardnalea, Craigavid, Co Down.

He married around 1895, Annie Alicia Thomson (who died about December 1867), daughter of Robert Thompson of Castleton and they had three sons and a daughter.
