A statue by John Hogan stands in the Crawford Art Gallery today. It bears the Cork coat of arms on the base and the inscription praising William and his love for his native city -'His heart throbbed for her prosperity'. |
William was the eldest son of William I of Cork and his first wife Mary Bordman to survive to adulthood.
He was married in 1813 to Dulcibella MORRIS daughter of Abraham MORRIS of Dunkettle, Co Cork and they had two children William Horatio and Thomasine.
William was responsible for a signed, handwritten list of his father's 26 childrens' times and dates of birth, and the additional comment, (as follows), which changes some data extracted from Burke's, which indicated that Elizabeth Cooke was his mother. . .
My dear Father departed this life on the 29th November 1834 aged 77 years and 4 months. He was twice married, first to my Mother Mary Bordman, who died in the latter part of the year 1797 and secondly to Mary Uniacke.
