Henry was born at Stalleen, Co Meath and baptised at Drogheda, Co Louth on 21 August 1825.

He was a Wine Merchant and commission agent of Victoria Street and Castle Place, Belfast and later of Dublin.

He married Ellen, daughter of James Goddard of The Lodge near Belfast and Matilda née Ferguson.

They had three children, Herbert, Henry Francis, Ida Florence

Henry died at Glanmore Castle, Ashford, Co Wicklow and was buried at Mount Jerome Cemetery, Harold's Cross, Dublin.
