Hugh was an Attorney at Law He married by Connor Diocesan Licence on 30 September 1839 at Derriaghy Church, County Antrim, Charlotte REFORD, second daughter of Lewis REFORD of Beechmount and Spring Farm, co Antrim

Hugh and Charlotte had at least three sons, Hugh, Charles Herbert and Arthur Howard.

Hugh was buried at Knockbreda
