There is no established link between the CRAWFORDs of Orangefield and those of Crawfordsburn, although as they moved in the same circles lived quite close to each other and intermarried, it is quite possible that they shared an ancester. The theory propounded that Hugh (p299) was an unlisted son of James and his wife Mabel Johnston is not supported by a handwritten family tree in which he does not appear. This tree, believed to have been drawn my Maria CODDINGTON née SHARMAN-CRAWFORD, also removes the possibility of his being a brother to James.
- p298 Hugh b (at a guess between 1710 and 1725(?)
- NOTE: The position in this tree of Hugh (p299) below as son of the Hugh (p288) above is speculative. It is known that both these Hughs were both of Orangefield and the one above had an 'eldest' daughter Martha who married William WHITE with line as shown, but the number of generations between Emily born in 1827 and her Great great grandfather Hugh would seem too many for it to have been the Hugh below. In any case Martha who married William White is not listed amongst his children, so she is (speculatively) presumed here to have been his sister, lending her name to her (presumed) niece Eliza Martha.
